To The Editor : Regarding the labour dispute with Codiac Transpo, I am glad the City of Moncton is taking a stand on this and only allowing overtime after the casual workers get their 40 hours in. It shows that the drivers are living beyond their means if they need the overtime, as they pull in $60,000 a year. Unions have misused overtime constantly.

Overtime isn't a right or to help supplement the workers way of living. If overtime is required, it is obvious that the need is there to hire more drivers - casual or permanent. I realize overtime for concerts or activities outside normal hours is within the realm of necessity, but it is selfish to demand overtime when casual workers come in at the straight salary instead of time and a half or double.

A major restructuring is needed within Codiac Transpo, not just the union, but management. This downtime is a perfect time for management to review all routes, to manage the times better, to eliminate, revise or add routes. Why do three buses travel at the same time down Mountain Road? Will someone please explain what an express bus is, as it runs the same route as the One and Two? Perhaps have all three just do the north end/ hospital and transfer to a bus at the Northwest Centre to do downtown. Shorten the routes, enhance the service.
