The Moncton Fire Department spent two hours yesterday evening dousing a brush fire inside Centennial Park. — Platoon Chief Paul Bruens said about 20 full-time and volunteer firefighters worked to extinguish the fire. Their work was made more difficult because of the rotting undergrowth in the park's forest, forcing them to dig up decaying wood to get at hot spots. — The fire damaged about two acres in the northwest part of the park. — The cause of the blaze is unknown.
